colo

DENVER — The sixth annual Colorado Fruit & Vegetable Growers Association Conference convened Feb. 24-25, here.

Adrian Card was named the 2020 Robert Sakata CFVGA Member of the Year. This is the third year of the award, which is named for Robert Sakata of Sakata Farms, who was a founder of this association in 2013. Sakata stepped down from his position of CFVGA president after the meeting.

Card was also a founder of CFVGA. He is an extension agent at Colorado State University Extension in Boulder County. Card was recognized at the close of the meeting by the association’s vice president, Roger Mix.

The meeting featured a track tailored to beginning and small farmers. Serving the locally grown market in-state was a key component of the meeting. The convention involved dozens of supplier booth exhibits and 300 attendees. Workshops related to important issues facing Colorado fruit and vegetable producers, including the need to work with the H-2A labor program and addressing Colorado’s water shortage.
