Mark Munger, formerly vice president of marketing at Andrew & Williamson Fresh Produce in San Diego, has left A&W after 10 years to join MCL Fresh in Los Angeles as vice president of sales and marketing, a newly created position. He started in his new position Feb. 1.

Prior to joining A&W, Mr. Munger had been with Driscoll Strawberry Associates for eight years as director of marketing, and prior to that he worked with the Mark-MungerMark MungerProduce Marketing Association as director of the retail division.

Mr. Munger told The Produce News Feb. 6 that leaving A&W was not an easy decision for him, saying it was like leaving family.

"But I was just at a point in my career where I was ready to stretch my wings and take on an exciting challenge, and it is just a really great marriage," he said. "The more I was able to learn about MCL Fresh the more I was able to realize it is just a very successful company with amazing opportunities."

Mr. Munger said that his directive from MCL "is to continue to build a sales team that is really focused on the needs of the customer, and through that we are going to be able to grow our business. And it is also to go out and continue to build on existing customers as well as go after some new customers."

MCL is a vertically integrated grower-packer-shipper, he said. "They are invested a lot in the ground. They are specializing in a couple of high-value items like sugar snap peas and Brussels sprouts and green beans, and they are putting together some really innovative packaging."
