CPMA Toronto on target to be Fresh Success

The 88th Annual Canadian Produce Marketing Association Convention & Trade Show, themed Fresh Success, will be held April 17-19, 2013 at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto. Returning to Toronto with 500 exhibit spaces, the 2013 event will have 25 percent more space than its 2009 Toronto visit, on target to be the largest yet.

CPMA's lineup for this year's event includes business sessions, engaging keynote speakers, a retail tour, social and networking events, and of course the opportunity to network on the trade show floor.

In a message on the website, 2012-13 CPMA Chair of the Board Jim DiMenna, president of J-D Marketing, states, "Our goal for the 2013 event is to provide the global produce industry with a business-to-business platform in Canada to effectively develop relationships between buyers and sellers. Additionally, the program will continue to support the development of industry knowledge through professional education programs and plenary sessions."

The CPMA Convention business sessions include a panel presentation look at regulatory change and subsequent effects on the produce industry. Social media expert Randall Craig will also present social media without wasting your time or losing your identity. A session titled, "Produce — what do Canadians want," will examine consumer perceptions and trends that are driving the Canadian marketplace. Shawn Casemore, president and founder of Casemore & Co., will also be on hand to examine increasing collaboration to improve profits, quality and integrity.

"We're always energized by the atmosphere when we bring the convention and trade show to Toronto," Bernadette Hamel stated in a press release. "And while we continue to grow, we are mindful of how important it is to keep the traditional feel and culture of this enduring event that allows buyers and sellers to relax, engage and build relationships that will continue to breed longstanding success for all involved."

Ms. Hamel, vice president of national procurement of produce for Metro Richelieu Inc. is CPMA's 2013 Convention Chair.

CPMA will also be offering a retail tour and a retail produce manager program. Social events include the Chair's Welcome Reception held at Toronto's famed Casa Loma, a sports-themed variety night and the annual banquet reception.

This year's annual banquet will be inspired by an evening in Tuscany. Opportunity's will abound for networking with meal functions, including Thursday's luncheon where The Produce News will be proud to present this year's Fresh Health Award.
