Fred Stokes spent 10 years terrorizing NFL quarterbacks as a hard-charging defensive end out of Georgia Southern University. Now he's teamed up with the Vidalia Onion Committee to help spread the word about the world's most famous onion — and to make some great sausage.
A Vidalia native, Stokes played for the Los Angeles and St. Louis Rams, the New Orleans Saints and won a Super Bowl in 1992 with Washington.
After retiring in 1997 he founded the Fred Stokes Youth Ranch and in 2007 launched Fred Stokes Foods. Now he's hit on true inspiration: Vidalia onion sausage. The good news is it's every bit as delicious as it sounds, as Maggie Giuffrida found out.
