North Carolina SweetPotato Commission mourns George Massengill

George Massengill, secretary and treasurer for the North Carolina SweetPotato Commission, died Jan. 25 at his home in Four Oaks, NC, with his family by his side.ncspc

Mr. Massengill served five terms on the board of directors, one year as vice president and 12 years as secretary and treasurer of the North Carolina SweetPotato Commission. "Not only did he serve the industry by being heavily involved with our board but served on many other agricultural boards as well as community and civic organizations," NCSPC said in a statement. "George and his family are members of Bethel Free Will Baptist Church where he served in many capacities."

The commission said he was a deeply loved and respected member of the sweet potato industry, his community and church, and will be greatly missed.

Mr. Massengill was born Aug. 11, 1949 in Johnston County, NC, to the late Jesse Elmon and Florean Parrish Massengill. He owned and operated Hill Top Farm Service Center in the Blackmon's Crossroads community.

A funeral service was held at Sunday, Jan. 28. Memorials may be made to Free Will Baptist Children's Home, P.O Box 249, Middlesex, NC 27557.
