Industry veteran and Southeast Produce Council President Andrew Scott is joining Superior Sales Inc. of Hudsonville, MI, as vice president of sales and marketing, effective today.
Scott will be based in Atlanta and will also have an office at J&R Baker Farms, Superior’s southeastern growing partner in Norman Park, GA.
A 1990 graduate of Regis University in Denver with dual bachelor's degrees in accounting and business finance,Scott spent 15 years with C.H. Robinson, eventually becoming manager of produce at the Atlanta branch before joining General Produce Inc. in 2006 as sales manager. He has held every leadership position in the Southeast Produce Council, and his term as president runs through September 2014.
“We’re excited about Andrew coming aboard,” said Superior President Randy Vande Guchte. “He’s going to develop new business, handle customer relations and also represent our company as a whole and sell it as a brand in the different offices we operate out of. Andrew will bring a whole different perspective to our company; you bring somebody in with some different experiences and they bring something new to the table. That gives us opportunities to look at things from some different approaches. We believe it’s a very good move for Superior and Andrew, and we believe it will be a great partnership. Though we have different ideas and backgrounds and come from different directions, we’re pretty close together in the way we think. I think it will be a good fit and will really help us grow in the future.”
Scott left General Produce in June to pursue a new career direction. At Superior he will have an opportunity to see a different side of the produce business.
“I love this profession we’re in and I’m excited about learning another side of it,” Scott said. “When I left Robinson and came to General I wanted to learn more about the produce business, learn another side of it. The time came when I was ready for new challenges and to learn new things and this will give me the avenue to do that.”
Superior Sales was founded in 1918 and has become an industry mainstay with multiple branches across the U.S. providing year-round supply of a wide array of fruits and vegetables.
“Superior is a forward-looking, progressive company with ideas for the future and I’m excited about being part of that. They are dialed in with food safety and ahead of the curve with traceability — they already have their GTIN number,” Scott said. “I’m also excited about getting closer to the ground and learning where all the produce actually comes from and selling it. We have a lot of flexibility, we’re nimble and able to adapt on the fly to customer needs. We are excited about exploring new opportunities and welcome new challenges in this ever-changing business.”
