Field to Vase Dinner at SAF convention draws over 400 guests

The tables were set for over 400 diners at the American Grown Field to Vase Dinner held during the Society of American Florists’ Annual Convention Sept. 14 in Palm Springs, CA.

F2V-SAFOver 400 guests attended the American Grown Field to Vase Dinner held during the SAF Annual Convention in Palm Springs, CA.These dinners normally take place on an American flower farm, but convention attendees got a taste of the experience in a very unique location.

There was a do-it-yourself boutonniere bar, a multi-course artisan meal, tables decorated with American Grown flowers, an opportunity to meet flower farmers, and swag bags for each guest containing flowers and related products. Nearly 20 farm ambassadors were available to talk with attendees about flowers, growing practices and issues related to sustainability.

“Having that conversational piece, ‘I know this farm grows great such-and-such,’ it’s a great connection,” Cronquist said.

“People love to know [flowers aren’t] just a commodity. It’s about creating a connection to place and a farming family.”

The Field to Vase Dinner is typically a venue for connecting “growers, wholesalers and industry folks with regular people off the street.”

This event, however, was strictly for industry insiders — attendees at SAF’s Annual Convention.

Prior to Palm Springs, the 2018 Dinners were held at farms in Fallbrook, Carlsbad, and Sacramento CA, as well as Soldier’s Grove WI.
