Practice ‘random acts of kindness’ with Petal It Forward

For the fourth year in a row, the Society of American Florists is leading the industry in the Petal It Forward campaign. During this “random acts of kindness” flower giveaway, people receive two free flower bouquets — one to keep and one to share — to demonstrate the Rutgers University research that shows flowers make people happy.

PETAL-IT-FORWARD2 SAF is urging floral professionals to conduct local events and make it a nationwide campaign, according to a news release. Support in every state, and in as many cities as possible, is critical to the success of Petal It Forward from a public relations standpoint.

“Our goal is to have Petal It Forward events on Oct. 24 in all 50 states,” said Jennifer Sparks, SAF’s vice president of marketing. “You can make it as big or small as you want. It’s a win-win for your business to participate.”

Customizable event materials can help promote your event. Sparks recommends that you and your staff wear branded Petal It Forward t-shirts in your company’s signature color. SAF provides a t-shirt template and a host of other resources and advice.

“The more florists we have participating on Oct. 24, the better chance of national news coverage and social media posts promoting flower power,” said Sparks. “We need to know where local events are happening so we can tell the media, and so you can tell your local media that you are part of an effort happening nationwide.”

To notify SAF of your event, complete the Petal It Forward Participation Form at www.safnow.org/pifform. To download materials or for more information, visit www.safnow.org/petalitforward.
