Fun ‘N Sun 2017 slated to take place right in the epicenter of San Diego floriculture

The California Association of Flower Growers and Shippers’ Fun ‘N Sun Floral Convention Aug. 9-12 at the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort in Carlsbad, CA, will be four days devoted to California flowers and the floral industry, according to the association’s website. Under the banner “Still Blooming Through the Ages After 75 Years,” the event marks an important anniversary for the CalFlowers organization and it boasts “it is the largest all-California floral display and floral exhibit available in one location.”

FUN-N-SUN-2017-no-caption “Being that we’re in North County, I’m just really excited about the growers’ tours,” Mike Mooney, general manager at Dramm & Echter in Encinitas, CA, and president of the CalFlowers board of directors, told The Produce News. “The logistics are going to be easier than ever due to the hotel location in Carlsbad. We are really close to the flower action — we will be within 15 miles of 80 percent of the floriculture business in San Diego County. It’s going to be easy to go visit the farms because you aren’t stuck in downtown San Diego, which is what usually happens. You are literally a $10 Uber ride to all the places you would want to visit.”

In addition to the farm tours, there will be a full convention program including educational seminars, a flower fair with a wide sampling of California-grown cut flowers, a seminar and panel discussion, two dinner parties, a golf tournament and more. Fun ‘N Sun offers you the opportunity to learn about emerging trends in the industry, to make new friends and to reconnect with familiar ones, and to visit three of California’s leading flower farms — Dramm & Echter Inc., Kendall Farms and Mellano & Co.

“I really hope people will take advantage of the proximity of the hotel to the epicenter of floriculture,” said Mooney.
