Naturipe aims to grow foodservice blues sales

MONTEREY, CA — Naturipe Farms LLC, a leading marketer of a full line of berries, headquartered in Estero, FL, is hoping the increasing popularity of its new “Berry Quick” line of single-serve blueberry packs will translate to higher foodservice sales for blueberries.

The “Berry Quick” pack offers the convenience of a pre-washed and ready-to-eat single-serving of fruit in a 1.5-ounce resealable pack, offering chefs and foodservice operators the option of a having a pre-measured serving to accompany a meal or the ability to add a partial serving into a salad or other dish.

“Chefs can open the resealable pack and shake out as much as they want,” said Robert Verloop, executive vice president of marketing for Naturipe. The “Berry Quick” packs come in three 1.5-ounce resealable containers for a total of about 4.5 ounces of berries per pack. The company plans to release pint-size and larger containers for foodservice in the future.

The “Berry Quick” packs were featured earlier this summer in a segment on Lifetime Television’s “The Balancing Act.” The five-minute segment highlighted the health benefits of fresh berries and featured one of Naturipe’s growers, Kable Munger of Munger Farms in Delano, CA.

In addition to touting the product at the recent Produce Marketing Association Foodservice expo, Naturipe was promoting its black label “Naturipe Selections” line of premium berries, which are either proprietary varieties or varieties for which Naturipe is the exclusive distributor, said Mr. Verloop.

Raspberries, strawberries, blackberries and blueberries are available in the “Naturipe Selections” line.

“These berries are produced under a breeding program developed around taste profiles and production,” said Mr. Verloop. “The black label is a step up and is available only when the berries are in season.”
