D’Arrigo Bros. says New York Produce Show gets bigger and better every year

Headquartered on the Hunts Point Terminal Market in the Bronx, NY, D’Arrigo Bros Co-New York Inc. is a solid fixture in the fresh produce industry in the Northeast and far beyond.

Company representatives have attended every New York Produce Show since its inception, and has exhibited every year for the past decade. This year it will exhibit at Booth No. 343 on the showroom floor, which will be held on Thursday, Dec. 12, at the Javits Center Hall C in New York City.

D’Arrigo Bros. Marketing Director and Organic Buyer Gabriela D’Arrigo, said, “The show just gets bigger and better with every passing year.”

Marketing Director and Organic Buyer Gabriela D’Arrigo. The company was founded in 1904 when then 16-year-old Andrea D’Arrigo immigrated from his homeland of Sicily, through Ellis Island in New York City, and finally on to Boston, his new home. He, along with his younger brother Stefano, learned to speak English and furthered their educations. Both completed college with engineering degrees.

Following their service to the U.S. in World War I, they had great difficulty finding employment, and finally took jobs working in a roadside farmers market.

In its current structure, D’Arrigo Bros. Co-New York was launched in 1948 by Andrew’s son, Stephen.

Throughout the decades, the company has grown and expanded exponentially, and today has a strong presence throughout the Northeast and far beyond providing its customers with a full line — over 1,065 items — of fresh, high-quality produce and related products year-round. It also handles a full line of fresh organic produce.

Today, D’Arrigo represents some of the most well-know brand names in the produce industry, including the popular Andy Boy brand, which is produced by its sister company, D’Arrigo Bros. California, located in Salinas.

Uniquely positioned to supply New York’s retail and food service trade with the highest quality produce, D’Arrigo Bros. is one of the largest wholesale produce suppliers in the New York Metro area.

The company is located in a 75,000-square-foot facility at the Hunts Point market. Its fleet of more than 50 trucks deliver everything the fresh produce industry has to offer.

The company is managed by third-generation D’Arrigo family members: Paul D’Arrigo, president and buyer of western vegetables; Michael D’Arrigo, vice president of sales and fruit buyer; and Matthew D’Arrigo, vice president of procurement and all inquiries.

Several fourth-generation members, include Gabriela D’Arrigo, have joined the company in recent years.

Overall the company boasts a professional and highly experienced staff.

Gabriela D’Arrigo said the company is geared up for the New York Produce Show.

“Every year we promote our full line of products and services,” she said. “The constant rate at which things change in the produce industry makes each year more unique than the one before.”
