Always growing and expanding, NatureFresh Farms strives to stay a step ahead

Leamington, Ontario-based Nature Fresh Farms is one of the largest independent greenhouse produce growers in Canada.

The company provides a full-line of high-quality greenhouse produce to its customers in a seamless year-round supply.

Included in its ever-growing and expanding portfolio was the opening of its new Delta, OH, greenhouse, which began shipping in February 2016.

Director of Marketing Chris Veillon said the company is currently growing and shipping OhioRed branded tomatoes-on-the-vine.

NatureFresh had just begun picking and shipping green beefsteak tomatoes from Ohio in mid-February, and its branded OhioRed red beefsteak tomatoes were scheduled to start a couple of weeks later.

“We will begin shipping Ontario-grown snacking tomatoes in the next few weeks from our Leamington greenhouses,” noted Veillon. “And customers can expect to start seeing Ontario-grown colored bell peppers in March.”

NatureFresh Farms’ Delta facility is in the Toledo region. The company’s new distribution center, opened last fall, is 40,000 square feet. It was built to help the company keep up with the increase in its business.

The facility will be operating year-round to support its business on both sides of the border.

NatureFresh Farms also recently broke ground on a 106,000-square-foot warehouse and distribution center in Leamington.

“Due to increased volumes and expansion of our growing facilities, we needed larger facilities to accommodate the increase in business,” Veillon pointed out. “Equipped with multi-climate regions, the facility will allow for a multitude of commodities to be packed and cooled prior to shipping. The facility is expected to be operational by early summer.

“Having recently completed 45-acres of new construction in Delta, and opening a new distribution center in Ohio, we are now focusing on growing for the foreseeable future,” he added.

NatureFresh Farms also recently announced expansion of its team of staff members. Niels Klapwijk joined the company last November as its retail account and procurement manager.

This February, Paul Schockman joined as sales office manager, and David Friesen was hired as logistics manager.

Veillon pointed out that the company’s OhioRed and TOMZ brands have been performing very well, and that Delta has supported the increased demand for the company’s tomatoes.

“As we now start to pick and ship from Leamington, consumers will continue to enjoy both Ohio grown TOMZ and Ontario grown TOMZ as the same growing practices are used at both NatureFresh Farm locations,” said Veillon. “With an emphasis on fresh, flavor and year-round, customers can continue to enjoy NatureFresh Farms locally grown with less food miles traveled.”
