The Oppenheimer Group announced the hire of CAROLYN CHANG and the promotion of NICOLE LAPINS on Oct. 16.
Chang, based in Los Angeles, joined Oppy in mid-September. She first began working in the produce industry in 1990, when she spent a decade as a produce buyer for Safeway, Inc. in Honolulu, HI and later in Watsonville, CA. She also spent five years in senior sales for Well-Pict Berries of Watsonville, before leaving the industry to pursue senior management roles in import and export, and run her own business.
Chang returned to the produce industry earlier this year, undertaking a brief sales stint with Orange County Produce before joining the team at Oppy.
“Produce is what I know best and what I love to do,” Chang said. “I have long thought highly of Oppy and am looking forward to making meaningful contributions here.”
In her new position at Oppy, Chang will focus on the expansion of the company’s berry category in the western United States, and also on selling the full Oppy line to select customers.
Lapins, who became Oppy’s newest sales person on Oct. 15, will take on the responsibility of selling to western Canadian customers alongside the Vancouver-based team.
With a background in sales, Lapins first joined Oppy as a sales and transportation coordinator about a year ago. She holds a diploma in marketing management from the BC Institute of Technology in Vancouver and a bachelor’s of commerce degree from Royal Roads University in Victoria, BC. Prior to joining Oppy, she worked in sales at Sprott-Shaw Community College.
“Nicole has come up to speed on our complex business very quickly,” said David Cheung, sales manager at Oppenheimer’s Vancouver location. “We are excited to bring her energy and her skill set onto our sales team.”
