The biggest floral day of all, Mother’s Day, awaits, and summer trade shows abound. The floral industry breathes a sigh of relief following the frenzy of Mother’s Day, and thoughts turn to trade shows.
The IFE show in June is one of the larger supermarket floral shows of the year. It is followed by a pair of California events — the Southern California Expo of the Fresh Produce & Floral Council in Anaheim and, hard on its heels, the biennial NORCAL Sun ‘N Fun Weekend. Be there or be square, as they used to say.
Elsewhere, we have a column by Catherine Jakaitis, global marketing manager for Floralife in Walterboro, SC, from the Produce Marketing Association’s inaugural Women’s Fresh Perspectives Conference in Scottsdale, AZ, late last month. Her reflections on women’s leadership in the industry should be of interest to professionals of both genders.
And speaking of PMA, I attended its Fresh Connections Retail conference in Charlotte, NC, and was happy to see floral well represented — 28 of the 119 participants from 24 states and Canada had floral in their titles. Floral or floral and produce execs attended from 12 supermarket chains, including H-E-B, Schnuck Markets, Walmart and Wegmans Food Markets.
