Simcha Weinstein, director of marketing for Albert’s Organics, headquartered in Santa Cruz, CA, said that the company is exhibiting at the Southeast Produce Council’s 2013 Southern Exposure Retail & Foodservice Conference & Expo that will be held on Feb. 28-March 2 at the Caribe Royale Resort & Conference Center in Orlando, FL.
“Albert’s will be at booth number 209 at the expo which will be on March 2,” said Mr. Weinstein. “Staff members: Rod Moyer, vice president of sales; Kevin Lyons, business development manager; Dave Duggan, business development manager and Ron Palermo, sales consultant will all be on hand at the show to greet customers and meet with new prospective customers.”
Founded in 1982, Albert’s Organics is a leading national distributor of quality organically grown fresh produce and perishable items. From its seven distribution centers it delivers to all major metropolitan cities, most regions in the continental United States, and to many areas in Canada. It lays claim to having the largest effective distribution coverage of any organic produce supplier in the country. It is the first certified organic distributor with nationwide coverage, giving it the ability to trace any product sold through its distribution channels back to the source. It is inspected annually by Quality Assurance International to maintain its certified organic status.
Albert’s Organics is also Primus Certified in all of its distribution centers. The Primus Labs’ program gives the firm the ability to have a third party certification agency come in and audit its program to verify that it is working and to validate its internal food-safety program audits. The program audit creates a comprehensive and detailed report that the company can use to focus on potential areas of improvement as well as producing a score that it uses to set and measure its goals for the program.
The company is in the process of preparing for relocations of two of its U.S. facilities.
“We are moving our Bridgeport, NJ, facility to a new building in the same city,” said Mr. Weinstein. “This strategic move will double our current space and put us in position to both increase our productivity and prepare us for future growth.”
Albert’s Organics Denver, CO, facility is also relocating. This move, which is in conjunction with the company’s parent company, UNFI, will allow it to upgrade its organic banana rooms, and to support its customer growth.
“In both instances the distribution centers are moving only a couple miles away and in the same town,” said Mr. Weinstein. The Colorado division is in Aurora, and it will remain there. Both relocations were due simply to the fact that we have outgrown the current facilities and we needed to build new spaces to accommodate our growing needs and demands.”
Albert’s Organics has been a member of the Southeast Produce Council for six years, and it has exhibited at Southern Exposure every year since it became a member.
“We connect with many of our retail customers at the expo,” said Mr. Weinstein. “And we enjoy the social opportunities such as the gala event. These are great networking opportunities in a casual atmosphere.”
