Locally grown isn’t just for fruits and vegetables anymore. Flower growers are also reaching out to retailers and consumers in their area. Buyers can now locate local specialty flower farms with a new online search directory launched March 26 by the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers in Oberlin, OH. The association announced the new online search service in a news release.
The association connects more than 600 members across the United States, and in Canada, the Netherlands and Northern Ireland. It provides production, marketing, and research information and holds national and regional meetings. ASCFG members grow a range of floral items, fresh and dried, including traditional and non-traditional flowers, woody stems and ornamental grasses.
The search directory is at www.ascfg.org. The user clicks on “Buy Local Flowers” and enters the alphabetical range of the name of the flower being sought, select name of flower, and search or enter farm or company or state. Listings provide the varieties of flowers grown, sales and shipping information and email contact information.
