Market Street, one of four chains operated by United Supermarkets in Texas, will roll out a new, smaller prototype store in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in November of this year with floral offerings up front, company spokesman Kerri Fulks told The Produce News in mid-January. United currently operates 51 stores under the Market Street name and three other banners: United Supermarkets, Amigos United and United Express.
The new location will be noticeably different, both inside and out, from its sister stores, according to Tony Crumpton, a United executive vice president. At 55,000 square-feet, he said, the store will be slightly smaller than any other Market Street location, in addition to sporting a completely new look inside. “We believe this store will serve as a new prototype for us, both in terms of size and décor,” Mr. Crumpton said in a statement.
“We are taking the best of our 70,000-square-foot stores and bringing into a smaller footprint — merchandising from a guest perspective,” said Wes Jackson, chief merchandising officer of United, in a news release. “Although we might not have as wide a selection in terms of size and flavors, we think we will still have a very good variety for meeting our guests’ everyday needs.”
Two significant changes will be apparent once guests enter the store — the “fresh from the farm” floral and produce departments at the front of the store, and a large casual dining area, complete with indoor-outdoor seating and offering beer and wine by the glass, a first for United. The store’s organic, natural, specialty, body care and supplements will be an entirely new presentation encompassing the widest variety of any United stores.
The floral department in the new prototype store, appropriately located in Flower Mound, TX, will be located at the front of the store, just to the right of the store entrance, Ms. Fulks noted.
