Floral industry members will gather in Washington, DC, March 11-12 for the Society of American Florists Congressional Action Days, featuring meetings with their representatives and senators on Capitol Hill.
Charlie Cook, for more than two decades one of Washington’s most trusted voices on all things political, will be the speaker at the March 11 Kick-Off Breakfast. Mr. Cook is the editor and publisher of The Cook Political Report and a political analyst for the National Journal Group and NBC News.
Kelly O’Donnell, the Capitol Hill correspondent for NBC News, will speak at the SAF Political Action Committee dinner March 11, attended by those who have contributed $150 or more to the committee. Ms. O’Donnell contributes to “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams,” “Today,” and MSNBC, and appears as a panelist on “Meet the Press” and “The Chris Matthews Show.” Her reports have taken her to all 50 states and 48 countries.
On March 12, Stephanie Vance, termed the “advocacy guru” of Advocacy Associates, will give the attendees a send-off talk at a Grassroots Breakfast before they head to the Hill for their appointments with legislators and staff. Ms. Vance, a former congressional staffer and lobbyist, will share tips and tactics. She is the author of the recent Advocacy Manual: A Practitioner’s Guide.
An optional event March 11 is a tour of Arlington National Cemetery. A fully operational national cemetery since May 1864, it serves as a tribute to the service and sacrifice of every individual and their families laid to rest there. The burial plot of President John F. Kennedy remains the most visited site at the cemetery more than 37 years after his assassination.
