The Michigan Floral Foundation inducted Bobbi Ecker-Blatchford of Florapros in Chicago into its hall of fame on Oct. 11. She was cited as an outstanding mentor and inspiration to floral industry members at ceremonies in the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids, MI.
Michigan Floral Association President Alice Waterous and Norma Chapman emceed the event and presented a video production on the life and career of Ms. Ecker-Blatchford (it can be viewed online at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6DDhcAqIss&feature=youtube).
The honoree’s son, Bruce Ecker, her daughter, Cyndi Campbell, her uncles, John and Arthur Kurtt, and foundation Executive Vice President Rod Crittenden also made remarks. Jeanette Ballien, foundation chairman, presented the award.
Ms. Ecker-Blatchford acknowledged many of the dignitaries in the audience, including Bob Williams, Society of American Florists president, and Harrison (Red) Kennicott, an SAF past president. She closed with a favorite poem, “God spoke, and from the arid scene, sprang lush and verdant bowers. And when the earth was beautiful and green, He smiled — and there were flowers.”
